Interior Painting for Folsom Homes

Folsom is a split city as far as painting goes. Near the historic district the houses are genuinely old, with the quirks that come with that — settled frames, plaster or older drywall, trim that has been painted so many times the profile has softened, and rooms that were never square to begin with. Out towards the newer subdivisions it is large, recent construction with builder finishes and a lot of wall to cover.

An older Folsom interior usually needs the preparation done honestly: filling, sanding, de-glossing old enamel so a new coat will bond, and priming where a repair or a stain would otherwise ghost through. Newer houses are more about coverage and clean lines, and about getting a harder wearing finish on the trim than the builder used.

Painting a Kitchen You Still Have to Live In

Both Folsom jobs we hold photographs of are kitchens, and both were painted around cabinets that were staying exactly as they were. That is its own kind of job. When the cabinets, the countertops and the backsplash are all staying, every one of them has to be masked and stay masked, and the only thing the paint is allowed to touch is the wall.

The February 2021 photographs below show that stage and then the result. Plastic over every cabinet door and the range hood, the island and countertops sheeted, paper across the floor — and in the finished shot the same espresso doors and the same granite, with the walls in grey-green and the island repainted. Containment is most of the work in a kitchen, and a kitchen is the room where a mistake is most expensive.

Where cabinets themselves are being repainted, that is a separate job with a different sequence — degreasing, sanding, a bonding primer, and somewhere for the doors to lie flat while each coat cures.
